Khurja is a small town in Uttar Pradesh, India, recognised across the world as one of the country's oldest and most important ceramic centres. The story began in the 14th century, when artisans who travelled with Timur's army settled in Khurja and brought their pottery skills with them. What started as simple red clay vessels has, over six hundred years, evolved into one of India's most distinctive ceramic traditions.
